PED & CE-Mark Since November 29th 1999, all pressure equipment with an internal pressure greater than 0,5 bar falls under the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). The Directive is applicable within the European Economic Area (EU plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein). Pressure equipment can be traded freely within this area once the PED has been complied with. Compliance with the PED therefore ensures no barriers to trade in this area.
Legal Requirement The PED is European Law. A transition period enables manufacturers to employ the old national requirements until May 29th 2002. Hereafter compliance with the PED is however compulsory, it is possible that for equipment not currently falling under regulation according to national law, conformity assessment is required under PED. It is therefore essential that manufacturers are well aware of the PED and its implications.
